There really wasn't much to do while the Captain talked to the musician. The dial they talked about really didn't interest her. As a matter of fact it only made her hungrier. If she didn't need to rip a hole in her wrappings, she could already be at the cafe eating. The smell of fried conch eminating from the nearby cafe was luring her to break rank and walk away. But she was not given permission to. It wasn't until her Captain said she was a bit on the mute side that she showed any emotion other than hunger. It was a touchy subject for her as her eyes drooped a bit. She didn't like being the only person around that could not speak. She had to rely on script and inflection of hand signals. Once she even asked for a drink using signiform.
When they musician offered his solution of installing a voice box, her heart sank a bit more. Not because of the proposed solution. But because of what she alone knew of her condition. It was even redacted in her Official Medical Forms. Her vocal chords were in perfect working order. The problum was that her brain had lost alot of grey matter and listed fuctions that were lost to her was her ability to breath without direct thought, the ability to dream, and most noteably to the rest of the world the knowledge and ability to verbalize. To her speaking was now as complicated as Theoretical Graviational Physics in the Application of Combat against Devil Fruit Users and the Impact of Seastone on the Local Fishman Economy. Just the notion that speaking was super easy and people did it regularly on a daily basis, many without thinking, made her feel like an idiot.
Tears welled up a bit in her eyes. With this feeling on her skin, she snapped a sudden about face, and moved a hankerchief up to her eyes wiping it away before any evidence was caught. She was a Marine, and Marines did not cry in front of the populace. That was reserved to a crate in the hold that was soundproof and completely dark inside. It was just about that time when the Music box started to play.
The song was lovely. The sound of strings being struck was not lost on her. Neither were the vocal patterns. The echoing sound through the alleyway kept her from turning back around to her Commanding Officer. Eyes closed she listened as she thought to her own father. How kind and gentle he was. Why was it though, the earliest memory she had with him was her crying, holding his hand, and watching a Celestial Dragon and child walk away? Why did that image keep replaying in her head? Error in the Gray Matter Thought Differential? |

| [attr="class","yes"]The reaction to his choice of words prompted a laugh from the long armed marine. So he was a family man, it seemed. One who took seemed to take things maybe a bit too seriously. "Fair enough. Zanji it is. A shame about your father though. I hope his death was quick and painless." There wasn't much he could say to try and soothe him. He didn't seem to be too upset over it, but he thought he should still try to smooth things over. Eyes darted over to May as her at the mention of her, lips curling into a frown as she turned her back to the two. Brows lowered, that previous look of displeasure starting to show hints of reappearing.
"You mean well, boy. But if that were possible it would have already been done. I don't pretend to understand how her gadgets and whatnot work, but if they can build a cyborg they can give her a voice. I doubt it's that simple." While he didn't see the tears, it didn't take a genius to see she was upset by the situation. He reached over and put a hand on her shoulder, giving it a soft squeeze. He may have been a harsh leader, but he didn't like seeing his crew in distress. Perhaps he should speak with Mavis about her to try and get all the details. Of all his new crew members she was without a doubt going to be the most complicated.
Arms returned to his sides as he listened to the music, nodding his head along with the smooth melody. "That's quite the voice. Your mother must be a beautiful woman." His words were accompanied by a playful smile, weight shifting as he watched Zanji for a moment. As the song came to an end he gently clapped his hands together a few time. "No wonder you wanted to protect it. I imagine music like that is hard to recreate." Playful smile turned to a smirk, eyebrows raising as his eyelids drooped. Gaze was focused on the musician, head tilted slightly. "So. You have subordinates as well? I thought I had you figured for a street musician. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of group is this you've got going?" He wasn't about to let his previous slip go unaddressed. There were too many red flags being raised to let something like that slide. Of course he knew it wouldn't be this easy.

Zanji's fist tensed up at the mentioning of his father from the unknown male marine. He knew nothing of the suffering his father went through. His hand began to shake he let out a few breaths and the shaking stopped. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the marine male. "It wasn't it was slow and agonizing and unjust he was murdered." He his words trembled slightly at the end as the anger began to rear its ugly little head. He needed to calm down and quickly otherwise he was going to end up in a fight that he probably wouldn't win. The images of the day his father was murdered passed before his eyes a tear welling up in his right eye as as it slowly trailed down the side of his cheek. If he was questioned more about his father his calm demeanor was most likely going to snap this was a very personal subject to him and he really didn't like talking about it.
He clenched his hands open and closed a few times this seemed to help him a little bit. He reached up and wiped the tear trail away from his cheek. His eyes widened in shock as he thought about his careless words to the girl and he was totally ignorant of her feelings. He shook his head and made a apologetic bow to her. " I am so sorry please forgive my rudeness miss I am sorry if I upset you with my careless words." His tone was genuine and compassionate he truly did feel bad he should of taken into account that girls feelings. He slowly raised up from his bow and brought his attention once again back to the male marine. "Yes she was a beautiful women." He smirked as the marine spoke he seemed to understand why he wanted to protect the tone dial so much. "Yes seems you understand the importance of it to me this is irreplaceable." He chuckled at the mans question about him having subordinates. "Oh no no i am but a humble traveling musician all by his lonesome, In my case though instead of subordinates I mean my friends i stick by my friends and help them."
He shook his head and covered his mouth as he let out a yawn. His tone being honest as he spoke "I have no group as I said I'm just on my own though I would like to get band members I would hope to someday form the worlds greatest musical troupe." He was speaking somewhat truthfully even though his tone was sounding honest he did his best to conceal the true message that lay hidden within his words. He wanted to find people yes it would be a great benefit if they were also musicians. Then again he wasn't really a average street musician he was a pirate and he wanted to one day become the greatest pirate there ever was. He smirked and nodded his head politely as he pocketed the tone dial. "Now if you will please excuse me I have things to do people to play my music for." He chuckled and began to walk straight down the alley way past the two marines. His demeanor was calm and cool his posture straight as his foot steps echoed around the stone surface. His facial expression changed into a smile as he began to Hum loudly the song he had played at the fountain before this incident took place.

Maybird felt the captains hand on she shoulder and it prompted ehr to pop straight to a perfect attention stance. Foot moving quickly for an about face turn to face the two again. Cheeks dried , but eyes still a little glassy. Though for a cyborg that could just be cyborg eyes to many. That was one of the few things in her body that was not replaced artificially. At least yet. She did require glasses to read. She had been farsighted before the accident and while they fixed everything else, they couldn't correct her vision. Then again, being a farsighted gunner was a bit advantageous. They spoke of the music dial again and the song it contained. With the musician's apology and bow, she did look a bit more at him. He was kind of cute. She had a small bit of blush on her cheeks as she caught how he looked.
He spoke more of his mother and band. His goals and dreams. His lonliness struck a chord in her. As he started to walk away, she went and took an uncharacteristic action for her. Normally she wouldn't move in the presence of a Commanding officer without permission, but this was one of the rare times her mind was over ruled. Reaching out, her fingers caught the sleeve of his shirt and pulled on it lightly. She stepped closer and smiled to him, then pointed back towards the cafe before pointing to him, then herself, and back to him, before holding her hands together in front of her to make it seem like a question. She knew she wouldn't be a great conversationalist, but she wanted to hear more from him. And there was bound to be napkins she could write on if she had to respond. The men in the Marines were all too afraid of her last name to spend any time with them, and this was the first cute boy who didn't run from her being a Gremlin. It was an opportunity she had to seize. |

| [attr="class","yes"]Lips twisted in slight annoyance with the man, his response to his attempt at comfort striking a nerve. Couldn't the guy just accept the condolences without getting aggressive with him? The way his voice shook almost made it sound like it was personal. Perhaps it was a Marine who 'murdered' his father. It would certainly fit with his current set of suspicions. The tears only made him more suspicious and more annoyed. Seeing one of his own upset was one thing, but a potential criminal? They weren't allowed to feel sadness. Head shook slowly as he took a deep breath, not even attempting to hide his irritation at this point. "Didn't mean to upset ya there, mate."
At least he apologized to May, eyes looking to the cyborg as he awaited her response. Teeth clenched and eyes widened slightly, her blushing catching him off guard. That was one thing he was not expecting from her. She wasn't buying into this guy's bullshit, was she? With a sharp breath he turned his attention back to Zanji, any facade of friendliness towards the suspect tossed out the window. If he couldn't rely on his crew mate to be hard on him he was going to have to do enough work for two. "I see. A humble traveling musician. Who got punched in the jaw by a cyborg and is still talking. Not suspicious at all." Eyes narrowed, his intent to apprehend the man becoming more and more obvious. Even more he attempted to simply walk away, even smirking before excusing himself. That was it. He had seen all he needed to bring this guy in.
He allowed the man to take a few steps, intending to extend an arm to block his path and give him a chance to surrender peacefully. But it seemed Maybird had something else in mind. Brows furrowed as he watched her in confusion, yet again surprising him with her actions. It appeared she was still more human than machine. With most of his subordinates he would have arrested the man regardless, simply telling them they can have dinner in a jail cell if they loved criminals so much. But in this case things were different. Not because she was a Gremlin. He wanted to encourage humanity in the girl. He would much rather have a loyal woman on his ship than a machine just going through the motions. With a deep breath he regained his smile, positioning himself next to Zanji. He would reach over and put his arm around the man's shoulders, any attempt to move away being met with an equal level of pursuit. Something that was considerably easier with his elongated arms. "I suggest you take her up on this offer, lad. In fact, I'm feeling a bit hungry myself. Surely you wouldn't mind if I came along. I've still got a few questions about that song of his!" He let out a laugh, amused by his own self invitation.
"Of course she's still a marine with a job to do. If I'm going to let her have a treat she's going to have to finish what was started." He turned to Maybird, eyes softening as he smiled at her. "That thief is still alive, Gremlin. Finish him off." He had to be sure that this humanity of hers didn't bring a level of softness with it. He watched Zanji out of the corner of his eye, curious of his reaction to the order. If he had him figured right he wouldn't be too pleased. Which would be perfect. The last thing he wanted was for the attraction to be mutual.

Zanji felt something tug on his shirt as he attempted to leave this dismal ally way. Did he get caught on a tail or something that would just make this day all the better ripping his shirt. He turned around and was shocked to see the girl was the culprit of what had grabbed his shirt. He was almost tempted to pull it free but when she smiled at him his heart beat a little faster. She then began to do some hand gestures which took him a few moments to understand. He was not at all use to communicating with a mute. He smiled gently back at her and was about to turn down her request when the male marine spoke up. It seems he too was somewhat irritated he could tell by his tone of voice when e spoke to him apologizing once again. He gently placed his hand upon the girls which held his sleeve and pulled his shirt free gently. He chuckled as the man spoke to him about how he took a punch from a cyborg and was just a humble traveling musician. This guy was perceptive and in a way he was most dangerous he would need to be on his guard.
He chuckled and spoke in a gentle manner but also in a somewhat jokingly coy manner "as I said before im just a humble musician but I'm no wimp you have to train your body hard if you wish to travel the seas after all there are dangerous folks out there." He smirked and straightened out his sleeve of his shirt and suddenly his stomach let out a audible growl. His cheeks went pink with embarrassment Rubbing the back of his head and chuckling "Well i suppose i could stick around for a quick bite to eat." He narrowed his eyes in a annoyed manner as the male marine had invited himself along to his and gremlins little date. "Well I suppose I can't say no since you put it that way however it is Officer gremlins decision if she wants you along on our little get together." He turned about and began walking down past the thief heading towards a nearby cafe when he stopped in his tracks in front of the thief. He felt pity for the thief and tossed down one of the thousand berri bills he had received from may bird and was going to continue on his way.
He barely put pressure on his first footstep when the male marine ordered her to kill the thief. "That's exceeding your authority as a marine and its not like he attempted to harm anyone sir so I suggest you belay that order." His Knuckles cracked as he stood before the thief shielding him. "That is excessive force and I would personally report your sorry butt to your superiors for you blatant abuse of power." Things were going so very well and now this shit had crept up on him. Damn his sense of morality and curse this marine for bringing it up. This man was a clear case of abuse of power that held within the marines. This was one of the reasons he despised the marines. Well more so the fact the marines didn't do anything either when his father was murdered before his very eyes.

She didn't see how her Commander reacted to her actions. She was on Shore Leave and it seemed he was going to be released. When he gently pulled her hand away from his shirt, her eyes lowered a bit. He would then talk to her commander again. But she then lit up as he accepted her invitation....and so did the Captain. Her cheeks puffed a bit in a visible way. The type of look a teen would get when thier parent decided to chaperone thier date. It then occured to her, he could turn this into a friendly investigation. The puffing cheeks went away. She was about to indicate that it would be ok as the Captain could sort of translate for her. But then the order came down, Date for Death. She had to finish her job. However, it seemed the Musician was goign to try and get in the way again.
Letting out a sigh, she dropped her purse. A frown on her face. Small, a little past her regular face. She was disappointed in this whole situation. Not only was he again interferring, but there was no excuse now. They were both identified as Marines. He withstood a Single shot from her hand and her uppercut. She would have to resort to that. Which meant no date, no yummy cafe food. She was now required to return to the ship, because her outfit was about to be wrecked.
Her eyes sharpened as she looked at him. An audible whir coming from all over her body. The wrappings and dress fabric over her ports ripped away revealing all sixteen ports in her body. A glowing blue sphere appearing in each. There was a disturbance in the air around her as massive amounts were pulled into her, compressing the oxygen into sixteen shots. And it kept building. Far beyond her single shot before. She raised her arms up forming a T shape and her palms rotated pointing towards the thief. A twinge of pain showed on her face before the silence came. Then all at once, every port in her body erupted with not a shot of oxygen, but a stream of twisting destruction. The life giving element was now an Element of Massive danger. The Blaze Technique was her most devestating abilitiy and it wouldn't be stopping any time soon without her Captain shutting her down. |

| [attr="class","yes"]He had a feeling this would happen. Arms crossed as Zanji proceeded to intervene with Marine business. This time there was no excuse. Only terrible reasons. Honestly almost felt bad for the guy. He clearly never had to deal with Marines before. "The man attempted to murder you. He didn't hesitate to shoot at you. He didn't hesitate to steal from you in broad daylight. You as an artist know how important every coin is, don't you? Stealing from someone who uses their talents to live a simple life is a disgusting crime on it's own. If he'll steal from you, try to kill you. He'd do the same to anyone." He shrugged, arms folding across his chest as he gave a look of disinterest. "You're free to report this to whoever you like. I could use the publicity. Because this is me doing my job, boy. My job is to execute judgement. If he wants forgiveness he can get it in the afterlife. Now step aside." Shoulders drooped as a whirring sound filled the air. Damn girl didn't know how to hold back, did she? "Shit."
Arm extended towards Zanji, moving to wrap all the way around his neck. "Shut up I'm saving you." With that he sprinted to the side, hopefully with Zanji in tow, and out of the way of the impending onslought. He was aware of the power of this technique, but had yet to see it first hand. But now was not the time or place. If he didn't do something soon she was going to damage the town and hurt civilians. He wasn't about to let that happen under his command. If Zanji came along for the ride he would be released, hands moving to draw his blades as he locked his eyes on Maybird. "Boy, if you stop me from knocking her out I'll take you down next." At this point he didn't care if she killed the thief. She proved the intent, which was all she needed. If the guy survived he'd finish the job himself.
He approached her from an angle, avoiding getting caught in her gusts as he drew near. "Sorry kid." Winding back, he delivered a powerful blow to the back of her head. Of course he used the dull end of his blades, but if it made contact it would be strong enough to slam her face to the ground and render her unconscious. He wasn't fond of the idea of hurting a crew member who was actually following orders. Still, he was gonna have to have a talk with her about the value of subtlety.

He was glad to see that she did not look to pleased at first when male marine had invited himself to there get together. But then again it could also of been a expression reflecting on a memory he could not tell. He kept up his warm and gentle smile as he looked over at may as he heard the sound of a audible whirling noise coming from her. His eyes widened in shock as she revealed more of those little ports along her body and a blueish glow appeared around the holes. He kept on his smile though as suddenly the male marine figure came bustling in to try and save him from her attack. He didn't have much of a choice now He smirked as the man attempted to grab him by his neck well now was the time to reveal his powers it seemed. He stretched out his neck and moved it at a downwards angle avoiding the marines attempt to try and save him and quickly stretched out his arms ans legs and held onto the wall as he took in a great intake of air. His stomach expanded quickly and he soon became reminiscent of a balloon. He felt his body take in the attacks all at once.
He grunted as his body stretched backwards from the sheer force of the attack. His arms and legs stretching back as he held onto the wall for dear life. He Was not going to allow any of those attacks to escape him he was not going to allow any collateral damage. He smirked as he felt the last of the attacks dissipate as he reeled himself back in with his arms and legs. He would remain ballooned up as his body shook from the minor damage it had taken from all sixteen shots. He reached down quickly and grabbed his violin case and tilted his head downwards and gave a salute to the marine captain and let out all the air he had stored up in his body. He was lifted off the ground and sent into the air. He laughed happily at being in the air he felt somewhat like a balloon that had been sent into the sky. He had his violin and his precious tone dial. He cleared the buildings rooftops easily and continued to soar upwards. He then shouted at the marines. " Hey when officer gremlin wakes up tell her I'm sorry about having to cancel our date and I hope we meet again." He chuckled and stretched out his arms and grabbed onto a nearby by weather vane and began to run along the rooftops.
