| * Gulls drifted by overhead, circling the ocean restaurant in anticipation. Their familiar cries sounded almost quiet against the churning of the waves below, the doors to the glorified little kitchen boat practically humming with all the activity going on inside. Honey's large round eyes widened as she stared down the double doors marking the entrance with an almost tangible air of eagerness, a small hand reaching up to pull at one of the handles. With the ocean at her back and the prospect of a delicious lunch just ahead, her stomach flipped in her excitement.
The rich smell of stewed meats and heady spices combined with the comforting warmth and cheerful energy of the restaurant welcomed her like a much wanted hug. Honey stood in the doorway, her chest puffing up with air as she took a deep, slow breath, a small smile creeping up onto her features. The lunch hour rush. The Baratie was packed nearly to capsizing with rowdy sailors and uppity busybodies alike, chattering away and having themselves a good time over gourmet dishes that made the girl's mouth water at a simple glance. The fact that there was hardly space to take a step hardly bothered her and, really, didn't pose much of a challenge for such a tiny thing. Slinking her way along, dodging legs, swords, and purses just ripe for the picking, she worked her way toward the front of the crowd and was quickly pulled aside by one of the waiters to be dragged off to a table.
Of course, with it being lunch hour, she could hardly expect the table to be anything other than occupied. With her hands grasping a newly "acquired" coinpurse in front of her, she smiled up at the table with an eerily wide grin, directing her focus to the menu rather than the fellow patron she faintly registered as sitting on the opposite side of the table. She swatted her waiter's hands away with a slight frown as he tried to help her up, clambering up into her chair by her own power. Waving him off with a pursed pair of lips, her gaze glued itself entirely to her menu.
Honestly, she probably could have benefited from a booster seat. She was already moving to draw her legs beneath herself in an effort to gain a few more inches over the table, tucking her coinpurse beneath herself as she got comfortable in her seat. Her tiny figure was nearly hidden from her lunchmate by the tall menu standing in her hands. Aside from her head of white hair, only her little fingers showed as she tapped at the menu's edge.
" What would you recommend? "

I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU. | [attr="class","sorry"]The Baratie was a sort of safe haven for most sea travelers. Marine or Pirate, there was a peace settled on this little fishy boat. Any attempts to break out a fight had the Chefs coming in with their overly large cooking equipment and beating the living shit out of ya. Polo had felt the pains of their feelings on a number of times when Marines came by, and by now he had settled down to simply delivering letter death threats to his fellow restaurant goers.
Seated within his own table that he had acquired just a little bit before the lunch hour rush, Polo sat in silence as he glanced over his menu casually at the other restaurant goers. Looking for any fools wearing the coats of the World Government. The Baratie was almost ripe for picking, at a later time. A small smirk creeped onto the Revolutionary's lips. This was going to be-
"Huh?" Polo glanced down at the tiny little girl getting herself situated on the other end of his table. Grey eyes glanced over towards the waiter, vibes of death waving over to his stupid head. What the hell? He had asked for a table just for himself. Polo glanced around, seeing the tables around him filled to the brim with several bodies. His narrowed eyes returned back towards the girl hidden behind her menu. He supposed it was all the waiter could do- ah what the hell.
" What would you recommend? "
"Where's your parents, girl?" A heavy frown formed on the man's face. He really didn't want to baby sit this kid. Setting his menu down, he glanced around to catch sight of a marine clothed man sitting a few distance away. Pulling out a pen and paper from his suit pocket, he began to furiously write on the paper before calling for a waiter to deliver the letter for him.
Pulling his menu back up, he glanced around it to look at the girl. He frowned heavily again. Sticking his face into the menu to read, he did his best to ignore the little pimple in his presence. |

| * She had heard the displeasure in his confused little sound, the strong negative vibes sent in the direction of the waiter that had escorted her causing the hairs on the back of her neck to stand on end. The little girl cocked her head to one side, her long white hair falling over her shoulders as she studied the menu closely - otherwise unperturbed by the stranger's decidedly grumpy mood. " Where's your parents, girl? " It seemed that this crabby sailor didn't miss a beat.
Her menu suddenly flicked downward as she flipped it to rest flat against the table, her gaze flitting up quickly to lock on her dining partner.
" Interesting," she started, folding her hands in a very polite manner. " I don't see that on the menu. "
From the looks of things though, it seemed her smart-aleck reply may have fallen on deaf ears. Her companion had already turned his gaze elsewhere. Her eyes narrowed slightly as he reached into his coat pocket, following the movements of his hand carefully as he began scribbling something down on a piece of paper. Her yellow gaze focused further, tracing along with his pen to try and decipher the message through its drops, loops, and point. It was clear in her eyes she was calculating, even as she turned her focus back up to the stranger as he handed off the note.
Just like that, he had propped up his menu between them, blocking Honey's view of the frown she was certain she'd caught a peek at. Her gaze fixed on his menu as the gears in her mind continued to turn. With nothing to distract her, the written letters were taking shape - the first word alone was -
It was her growling stomach that tore her from her thoughts, her steady gaze breaking from her partner's menu as she blinked quickly in her surprise. Lucky, considering she'd just about managed to stare a hole through the thing. The sound of footsteps followed soon after her belly's rumbling, drawing her attention elsewhere. Her eyes lifted their focus curiously, watching another patron be escorted through the tables. It seemed someone was headed their way. Whether or not they'd be seated with them or simply nearby couldn't be said for certain, though.

I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU. | [attr="class","sorry"] " Interesting,"
" I don't see that on the menu. "The side of Polo's lips twisted downward, his teeth grating against each other. Putting his menu down, he leaned to the side as he stuff his hand into one of his pant's pockets. Pulling out a carton of cigarettes, he pulled one out and placed it in his mouth. Preferring to chew on the cigarette instead of grind his teeth, he placed the carton back and pulled the menu back up to his face. With his frequent visits to the Baratie, he knew better than to light his cigarette. He wasn't in the mood to have a swarm of cooks shuffling out of the kitchen with their abnormally large cooking utensils and have his head beat in. Rolling the cigarette to one side of his mouth, his brows scrunched together as his eyes read along the menu. His concentration only broken by the loud and obnoxious sound of tummy grumbling coming from across the table. Tilting his head to the side to see around his menu, he stared at Honey with brows furrowed. He moved the cigarette in his mouth to the other side again and quickly moved his head to hide behind the menu. " Their soup is pretty good. " He commented lightly, his shoulders hunched forward. Hearing the sound of footsteps, Polo straightened his back and looked direction at the waiter and other customer. His eyes pierced straight through the two, sending out waves of death at both of them. His expression daring them to seat another person at the table. Almost instantly the waiter began to usher the man to another table nearby, Polo's intense gaze following them as they left. Only moving to look at the menu when he was satisfied with their distance. His body fell back into the backrest of the chair, his long legs extending under the table to stretch. Maybe he'd try the fish today. @ honey candy |

| * " Their soup is pretty good. " Her softened gaze drew away from the patron headed their way to settle on Polo, catching sight of his deathly glare to the waiter headed in their direction. She could hear their footsteps shift nearby, turning to wander elsewhere - but it hardly seemed enough to satisfy the cigarette chewing barnacle seated across the table from her.
A frown set on her lips as he stretched to lounge like a lanky cat in his chair. Death is coming. The answer came to her suddenly, the words he'd written on the sheet of paper striking her as incredibly suspicious.
" Are you Death? " she asked coldly, reflecting his unwelcoming demeanor back at him.
Her gaze shifted as her golden eyes hardened, her focus directing itself to his menu. The moment the menu dropped from between them Polo would find the girl's intense gaze locked pointedly onto his own.
Honey's lips set in a grim line as her gaze narrowed only a fraction. The rest of the restaurant had been tuned out.

His eyes glancing aside from his menu to look at the man who received his letter. Watching him closely for a moment as he took in the man's expression. " Are you Death? "He placed down his menu to stare at the girl across from the table. Her eyes locked with his own, an intensity sizzling from them. Polo's eyebrow raised as a confused look crossed his features. His foot rolled on his ankle from side to side as he thought over her question. " What kind of stupid question is that? " He countered, his head lifting up to the side as he continued to watch her. Twitching the left side of his mouth, his hand rose up to the air as his gaze never left her until he looked away to call for the waiter. " Waiter. "In a flash a waiter came with a big smile. "What can I get for you."Polo lifted the menu slightly as he looked down at it, his eyes trailing to look for the food that he was interested in trying. A finger lifting to point at the written words. " Sesame-Crusted Tuna with Wasabi-Ponzo sauce. " The waiter began to scribble down on the notepaper that he had and turned his attention to Honey. "And what would your daughter like?"Polo leaned on the armrest of the chair, placing his cheek and jaw in the palm of his hand. His expression bland, his other hand gesturing towards her. " What do you want, pipsqueak? "@ honey candy |

| * Though she couldn't see his gaze wander toward the uniformed Marine seated nearby, she knew full well who the note had been delivered to. Her piercing stare didn't seem to let up at the arch of his brow, her lips remaining set as he looked to her with a bored look of confusion. There was only a brief moment of silence before he answered.
" What kind of stupid question is that? "
He didn't seem the least bit concerned. His nonchalant reply however did little to weaken her staring, golden eyes boring holes into him as they remained locked in their place. As intent as Honey was on staring at him, he didn't show much sign of being disturbed. He stared right back, even as he rose his hand to call for the waiter.
Her gaze didn't shift as the smiling man hurried over, no response given to the waiter even as he kindly asked for their orders. She watched as his focus dropped back down to his menu. " Sesame-crusted tuna with wasabi-ponzu sauce. " Though she recognized as food her attention was too fixed for her mind to sort out the flavor profile. " And what would your daughter like? "
The words just barely caught her attention, but one wouldn't be able to tell by her seemingly permanent expression. " What do you want pipsqueak? " Pulling one clasped hand away from the other she opened her fingers to push her own menu toward the waiter, not so much as tilting her head in his direction. It was funny how the stranger's words vaguely reminded her of her adoptive father on a bad day.
" Sesame-crusted tuna with red pepper ponzu. " " No wasabi, " she clarified. Taking her hand back she locked its fingers with its opposite, finally pulling her gaze away to turn her stare to the Marine the letter had been delivered to as the waiter quickly jotted down her order. Apparently used to such a tense atmosphere as lingered around the girl in the restaurant, the waiter simply quirked the corners of his lips further upward. " I'll have it out right away, " he assured them as he drew his pen away from the page, giving a slight bow before quickly departing from them.
She leaned back into her own seat slowly, hands kept folded neatly in front of her as her gaze shifted toward the doorway, now bustling with the rest of the Marines from her crew. It seemed she wasn't the only one taking advantage of the Captain's regular stop.
Her eyes turned back to Polo to study him in silence, the intensity of her gaze having waned only the slightest bit.

One hand resting on the table while the other laid on a leg tapping in a rhythmic manner. Feeling the stare of the girl across the table of him, he didn't pay much attention to her. Only catching her words as she responded to the waiter with her order. " Sesame-crusted tuna with red pepper ponzu. " " No wasabi," She said, as if clarifying that she wouldn't like that in her dish. He gave a small snort, and continued to stare in the direction of the Marine for a while longer. His eyes gathering in all of his manners: the way he ate his food, how his eyes creased when he spoke to his companion, his lips pressing together as he formed expression on his face, and the way he held himself together. Polo became very engrossed with his staring, his attention only being diverted when the sound of people entered into the restaurant. His eyes quickly catching the insignia of the World Government and the words 'MARINE' plastered all over them. Polo glanced away, turning his attention to the girl across from him. His eyes locking with her lessened intense stare than before. He rolled the cigarette in his mouth to the other side, giving a small chew before stretching out his arms in a small yawn and clasp his hands behind his head. Tilting the chair that he's sitting in back a little bit, his eyes staring at the ceiling as he waited for his order to come. @ honey candy |

Post by YOIZUKI RYOSHI on Dec 24, 2015 0:47:26 GMT 7
For years, Yoizuki had heard talk of the wonder that was the Baratie. A high quality restaurant in the open sea, filled with the toughest chefs in the four Blues. While he couldn't attest to their strength, simply walking through the door was enough to confirm the quality of their cooking. Eyelids drooped over tired eyes as a weak smile slowly took over his lips. Seeing the waiters and busboys going about their work among the hustle and bustle of the customers brought back memories of home. The scrawny man stood awkwardly in the doorway, only moving when a rambunctious customer barged in and knocked him to the side. After some excessive apologies to the poor man he so inconvenienced, he decided it was time to actually have a seat and try the food for himself.
He scanned the room, arms hanging at his side. Unfortunately the place was completely full up, as no one had even attempted to seat him. Perhaps they were just too busy. Which was fine, of course! This just gave him a chance to watch all these friends and family enjoy each others company. Eyes widened as he caught sight of one specific table, one with a man and a young girl. A father and daughter. Just the sight of this was enough to bring a tear to his eye. He didn't even dare think of where the mother was, simply deciding this was a special father daughter day. He knew full well how nice alone time with your daughter was.
"Excuse me." Before even he knew it, Yoizuki was standing beside their table, an excited smile contrasting his exhausted eyes. "I-I just wanted to say how nice it is to see you spending quality time together..." He stopped, clearing his throat and turning away. After blinking away a few tears he turned back to the pair, standing straight and tall. "I haven't gotten to share a meal in some time. D-do you mind if I join you?" Oh how he would love to be part of their alone time! | |
